Ivan Greenberg was born in 1962 in Ithaca, NY. He grew up in Manhattan in the shadow of Soho, then a thriving art district. He did art as a child (pottery and collages) and returned to these endeavors on a more serious level when he was 29 years old, seeking an outlet to deal with painful developments in his life. Greenberg paints in a bold and colorful Expressionist style. He is largely self-taught, although he studied at the Art Students League in NYC during the late 1990s. He also holds a Ph.D. in History from the CUNY Graduate Center, and publishes articles in U.S. social and cultural history. Recently, he is a published poet.
Greenberg exhibited in group shows since 1994. His only solo show was at the Limmer Gallery in NYC. His art is featured in the books New Art International 1996 and New Art International 2008.
